Bug Monster

As my mind wanders, images of monsters dance in my head. I amused myself thinking about a monster eating another bug’s friend. Bug Monster was a challenge. I had several parts from two bugs, a mallet, wings, teeth and more. With this one I was using the only clay I had at the time trying to figure out how the colors would work. I couldn’t decide if I wanted him hairy or scaly. He ended up being both. He’s made with a sparkly teal clay for his hair and scales around the eyes. Yellow and orange clay make up the scales on the rest of his body. The horns on the head and tail are made with a mix of transparent and white clay. I really like how it looks like two-toned bone, from very white to off white. I thought his face should look a little crazy, so I gave him two different colored eyes that are also two different sizes. The bugs are made with sparkly teal clay for the body and transparent clay for the wings. The one with the mallet has brown glass eyes. The bug in the mouth, who is hard to see behind the monster’s huge teeth, has a scared, shocked look on his face, hoping his friend will save him.
